Cherokee schools closing early

Cherokee County School District schools will close two hours early today, as wintery weather threatens to cause dangerous road conditions in the afternoon.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo authorized early dismissal for all Cherokee County schools Tuesday, said School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby.

“This means elementary school dismissal will begin at 12:15 p.m., with all schools dismissing by 1:45 p.m. All afternoon/evening extra-curricular activities and Polaris Evening Program classes have been cancelled,” Jacoby said Tuesday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Cherokee County Tuesday, with snow and freezing rain likely in the afternoon and accumulation possible.

The National Weather Service said there was an 80 percent chance of precipitation Tuesday, and a 30 percent chance Tuesday night, with lows around 16 degrees Fahrenheit.

The city of Canton government offices will be closing at 12 p.m. today.

The city of Holly Springs Administrative Offices will be closing today at 12 p.m.

Cherokee County offices will close at noon today and reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The city of Woodstock is closing its administration offices at noon today.

The CATS buses are moving forward their transportation runs for Cherokee Day Training Center & Senior Center to 12:30 p.m.

Cherokee Sheriff's Office Division of Emergency Management has issued an alert of significant icing on roads throughout the county.  Motorists are urged to stay off the roads if possible. County and city road crews are working diligently to treat areas as quickly as possible.

All campuses of Chattahoochee Technical College will close early today at because of inclement weather.
