High school athletes will resume competition today, back in action for the first time since snow and ice first crippled the metro-Atlanta area Tuesday.

Among the activities on the calendar for today are area wrestling tournaments for each of Cherokee County’s six high schools, as well as a host of basketball games.

Cherokee was one school that wasted no time putting postponed games back in the schedule. The varsity teams will make up their games at Roswell today. The girls tip off at 4 p.m., with the boys following at 5:30 p.m.

Cherokee will still need to make up a game with Walton, which was originally scheduled for Friday.

Woodstock will use today to make up its game with Walton, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday. The girls game begins at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m.

A new date has not been set for Lassiter’s game at Woodstock, which was billed at senior night.

Etowah, which was already scheduled to play Marist today beginning at 5:30 p.m., has not announced when its games against Wheeler and Roswell will be made up. Neither of those games could have been played today because both games are to be played at Etowah, and the gym will already be occupied with the Area 5AAAAAA wrestling meet.

Creekview will use today to make up its game against Northview, which was originally scheduled for Friday. The girls will play at 4:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 6 p.m.

That will leave the Grizzlies with a game at Pope to work into the final week of the season.

Sequoyah will keep its already scheduled Region 7AAAAA games against Cambridge. That leaves Sequoyah with makeup games against Kell and North Springs.

On the plus side, Sequoyah has just one game — at Osborne on Tuesday — already on the schedule for the upcoming week.

River Ridge has not announced when its Region 7AAAA games at Gilmer and against Cedartown will be played.

One thing that athletic directors and coaches won’t have to reschedule are the area wrestling meets, which will be held as planned.

Cherokee and Woodstock will join host Etowah for the Area 5AAAAAA traditional meet today. Meanwhile, Creekview and Sequoyah will compete in the Area 7AAAAA meet at Kell. River Ridge will travel to Cass for the Area 7AAAA meet.

Among other athletic activities postponed were tryouts for many spring sports. Athletes are advised to check with their respective coaches for updated tryout dates and times.

Reinhardt, which saw classes and activities in Waleska suspended for two days, also made changes to its athletic schedule.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams were scheduled to play a double-header Wednesday against St. Andrews, but those games have been rescheduled for Feb. 9, beginning with the women’s game at 1 p.m.

In addition, Reinhardt’s women’s basketball game against Brenau, which was slated for Feb. 8 in Gainesville, was canceled by mutual decision. Brenau was forced to cancel a conference game because of the weather and will use the date to schedule a makeup game.

Reinhardt’s basketball teams will return to action today when they play Appalachian Athletic Conference games at Bryan.
