The lead story in the Cherokee Tribune on Sunday could still have a happy, not ending, but beginning for Lisa Meyer and those of us who love Cherokee County.

I have been offering the Cherokee Board of Commissioners ideas on how to stop these greedy money-worshipping outsiders ever since I heard they were trying to buy the Bell’s Store property. Even in the reports last Sunday, there seems to be a defeatist, negative attitude about turning this callous, thoughtless, greedy group back from this destructive act.

It needs more than a weak-kneed, shrug-your-shoulders attitude by the BoC. First of all, if Jim Rollins and Flash Foods is hell-bent on demolishing our beloved Bell’s Store and destroying Lisa Meyers’ labor of love and lifetime savings, here’s my No. 1 suggestion.

1. BoC agree to pay to move and resite Bell’s Store, saving the old store and Lisa’s business.

Footnote — If we could spend $18 million to relocate Jimmy Bobo’s business, why not this miniscule cost to do something far greater?

2. My second suggestion is to do whatever we can to delay or stop these greedy bastards from opening their pathetic gas station. Let’s all do whatever we can to let Rollins and Flash Foods know they’re no longer welcome anywhere in our county.

3. My third suggestion is don’t dance around until it’s too late, like we do so many times.

A footnote: We taxpayers, with no say, have wasted more than $500,000 trying to justify what the BoC did for Jimmy Bobo.

Lisa Meyer shouldn’t be the big loser here — she is a poster gal for what the American Small Business Person is all about. Obviously, a lot of us are mad as hell but can’t do this without the BoC taking the lead.
