CANTON — A Canton woman was found dead beneath a crashed golf cart Monday night after she was reported missing, police said.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies were called to 67-year-old Mary Paulk’s home on River View Court at about 9:30 p.m. and were told she hadn’t been seen or heard from since noon, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Baker said deputies searched for Paulk near the house and found the golf cart on its side down an embankment behind the home. Paulk was found dead under the golf cart.

“The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident but no foul play is suspected at this time,” he said.
