Prep Roundup: Etowah boys win to stay unbeaten

Etowah didn’t drop a set Wednesday in beating Walker, one of Class A’s top programs, 5-0.

Ryan Templet and both of Etowah’s doubles teams — Taylor Barie and Kevin Mendes in one match, Jason Bayley and Austin Stark in the other — recorded shutouts.

Jake Pollack allowed five games in his win, while Cole Heller allowed one.

Etowah (6-0) will travel to Walton today in a battle of potential region champion contenders.

GIRLS TENNIS

Etowah 3, Walker 2:
The Lady Eagles swept the singles points to keep the Class A power at bay.

Hannah Ayers, Nikki Gilner and Keegan Casteel prevailed, with Casteel recording a shutout. Ayers allowed two games and Gilner four.

Etowah (3-1-1) will host defending state champion Walton for a Region 5AAAAAA match today.

BOYS SOCCER

Late Tuesday

Sequoyah 4, North Forsyth 0:
Four players scored as the Chiefs won the non-region game.

Jonathan Guy, Victor Rivera, Chet Shacklett and Dylan Calder all reached the goal. All but Shacklett had assists, too.

Diego Ruiz also had an assist, while Ethan Riggle made eight saves for Sequoyah (5-2), which will travel to North Springs on Friday for a Region 7AAAAA game.

GIRLS SOCCER

Late Tuesday

River Ridge 10, Gilmer 1:
Deven Sampson scored 13 seconds into the Region 7AAAA game, and the rout was on from there.

Brooke DeSantis and Chanel Mosley went on to have two goals apiece, while Alexis Lewis, Caitlyn Peterson, Jessica Anthony, Aubrey Wooten and Addison Trahant also scored.

Anthony, DeSantis and Mosley contributed assists.

River Ridge (3-2, 1-0) will travel to Etowah today.
