A Canton man was arrested Tuesday on two counts of indecent exposure after two reports in the Hickory Flat area.

The suspect, Paul Lamar Phillips, 59, was arrested by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office after police say he exposed himself.

“Within the last two days, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office has received two reports of a white male masturbating in his vehicle at local businesses in the Hickory Flat area,” said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

Monday’s incident took place in the parking lot at the Kroger on Hickory Flat Highway at about 9 a.m., Baker said.

On Tuesday, at about 1:30 p.m., another similar incident was reported at the CVS pharmacy on Hickory Flat Highway, he said.

“In both instances, the suspect was reportedly in a gold or tan minivan. Deputies flooded the area and located a gold Kia minivan driving in the area,” Baker said.

The minivan was pulled over at the entrance to the Kroger on Hickory Flat Highway.

“The victim from today’s incident positively identified the driver of the vehicle as the man she witnessed at the CVS,” Baker said.

Phillips, who is out on bond from a 2013 burglary, is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond, Baker said.
