King, who is married to writer Pat Conroy, is the author of five novels: “Making Waves,” “The Sunday Wife,” “The Same Sweet Girls,” “Queen of Broken Hearts” and the highly-praised “Moonrise,” which was an Okra Pick and Small Independent Booksellers of America bestseller.
Monday’s event includes a copy of her book “The Same Sweet Girls’ Guide to Life: Advice from a Failed Southern Belle” and Cupcakelicious’ cake ball desserts for $20. It takes place at 12:30 p.m.
Written with a blend of humor and practical wisdom, according to a press release, King’s book offers inspiration and solid advice to new graduates and other inspiration seekers that can sustain them through life’s inevitable ups and downs.
“In this small book, you will find advice that will only grow in meaning throughout the years,” the press release said.
FoxTale Book Shoppe is located in historic downtown Woodstock and offers an eclectic mix of books that includes signed first editions, hardcovers, paperbacks, and new and used books in all genres.
The locally owned bookstore regularly partners with other local businesses — including Leaning Ladder Premium Olive Oil and Vinegar and Tea Leaves and Thyme — for its book signings and events.
“We like to partner with local restaurants and show visitors what other wonderful things Woodstock offers outside of FoxTale,” said Ellen Ward, one of FoxTale Book Shoppe owners.
“This book is about the sweet girls’ guide to life, so we should have a sweet event with it,” Ward said. “Cupcakelicious is a local bakery with beautiful stuff that works well with our dessert-type events. They do a wonderful job.”
The cake balls are a proprietary treat that are uniquely designed to accompany specific events at the bookstore, Ward said. At a past event for FoxTale, Cupcakelicious created raspberry-flavored cake balls with stars in the frosting that matched the cover of the event’s book, Ward said.
“These delicious cake balls are individually wrapped, with great presentation,” she said. “They are about the size of a munchkin, but they’re unique cupcakes inside with a hard frosting, like a cross between a munchkin and a bonbon.”
The cake balls for Monday’s event are expected to combine the taste of red velvet cupcakes with the crunch of hard frosting, Ward said.
