CANTON — A Sandy Springs man is behind bars in Cherokee County after his arrest on a child molestation charge in an incident with a young girl in Canton, authorities said.

Jonathan Kent Davis, 26, was arrested last Tuesday and charged with aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation and violation of probation, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.

Baker said he was able to give little information about the case because too many details could identify the victim.

“The only thing I can say, additionally, is that Davis and his victim were acquainted,” he said. “The victim was a female under the age of 16.”

The incident was reported at the Sheriff’s Office’s precinct near downtown Woodstock on Dec. 16, 2013, according to a police report. Nearly all information on the report is redacted.

Cherokee County records indicate Davis has previously been convicted of marijuana possession and theft by taking for stealing a gun. Baker said he wasn’t aware of any other sex charges against Davis in Cherokee County.

It wasn’t immediately clear Monday if Davis has an attorney to contact for comment.

Davis was being held without bond in the Cherokee County Detention Center, Baker said.
