Brennan Duckwitz, 32, of Woodstock, was arrested Sunday on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault, after Police say he robbed the store at gunpoint and made off with an undetermined amount of cash, police reports said.
The robbery occurred at 4:55 a.m. at the QuikTrip at 9755 Highway 92 in Woodstock, police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said.
“After it was confirmed the incident did take place, a lookout was given for an individual matching the suspect’s description,” Duncan said in a release.
The clerk told police as the robber entered the store, he was pulling a black mask over his face. The man then walked “directly up to the counter and displayed a black, semi-automatic pistol in the waistband of his pants,” the incident report said.
The clerk said he handed over the cash drawer before the suspect fled on foot. After the robber left, the clerk activated the store alarm and waited for police, he told authorities.
Duncan said Woodstock police officers, the city’s Criminal Investigations Unit, K-9 units and the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office worked together to canvas the area.
“Officers located an individual who matched the suspect’s description standing outside of the CVS off Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock … The gun was located close by,” Duncan said. “K-9 Mann was very helpful, along with two K-9s from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.”
Woodstock Police Chief Calvin Moss said the successful tracking and arrest of Duckwitz was a joint effort between city police and the Sheriff’s Office, Duncan added.
“This is another example of excellent teamwork and coordination by agencies within the county,” Moss said Tuesday.
Duncan said Duckwitz was arrested without incident and was taken to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
Surveillance cameras inside the QuikTrip captured video of the incident, the report stated.
