Young performers who hope to make it big will have a chance to shine through a new partnership at the Cherokee Arts Center in Canton.

The Off Broadway Children’s Theatre is partnering with the Cherokee Arts Center after a successful summer camp season for the two in Canton during the summer break.

“After offering a variety of musical theater camps this summer which were well received by the community, a decision has been made to continue this partnership for the fall,” the local nonprofit arts center announced Friday.

Off Broadway will now offer weekly musical theater and improv classes for children between the ages of 5 and 14 at the Cherokee Arts Center. In addition, Off Broadway will produce a production of Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh Kids” featuring local children between the ages of 5 to 12.

Auditions for “Winnie the Pooh Kids” are Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cherokee Arts Council Theatre.

To reserve an audition, email at offbroadway@msn.com or call (770) 664-2410.

Those who would like to audition should prepare 30 seconds of a musical theater song of their choice to sing and dress comfortably to learn a short dance.

They may also be asked to read from a script. If cast, there is a $150 production fee and the performances will be held at the Arts Council Theatre on Oct. 24 and 25.

“Our theater prides itself on being a place where every child gets an equal chance,” a release from the center said. No parts are given based on seniority or how many classes a child takes —performing opportunities are given to everyone who shows an interest, the release said.

Off Broadway Dance Theatre has been a local leader in children’s theater and related dance instruction for 14 years.

“We believe every child can benefit from the life skills learned when participating in children’s theater,” the release said.

To register for upcoming classes, call the Cherokee Arts Center at (770) 704-6244.
