While Woodstock coach Mike O'Brien said he was honored by the ranking, but it was still too early to celebrate.
"It's a great honor, but it's still an early poll," said O'Brien, whose team ranked ninth in the preseason poll. "Hopefully, at the end of the year, we'll be there. It does show that our kids have earned some respect and that speaks volume of their efforts."
Woodstock (1-0) took last week off after defeating Kell, 17-0, in its season-opener the week before.
The Wolverines are continuing the momentum they had built up from last year's state quarterfinal appearance in its season opener with its convincing 17-0 win over Kell.
O'Brien, however, said his team can't afford to rest on its laurels and must be prepared to play every week, especially this week against a formidable McEachern team that is coming off of a 49-10 drubbing of Etowah last week.
"Each week, we still have to be ready to play," O'Brien said. "McEachern is tough and we have to be ready to play them on both sides of the ball."
The Wolverines took the spot in the poll held by Etowah last week. With their loss at McEachern, the Eagles (1-1) fell out of the poll after two weeks.
Ranked ahead of Woodstock in the Class AAAAA poll is Lowndes, followed by Grayson, North Gwinnett, Stephenson, Camden County, M.L. King, Northside-Warner Robins, Newnan and Peachtree Ridge.
Sequoyah, which was the No. 7 team in Class AAAA last week, fell out of the rankings after its 13-7 loss at Creekview. The Chiefs (1-1) did get a tally from one of the voters in this week's poll, though, and will try to work their way back into the rankings when they play Friday at Hillgrove.
As a result of its win over Sequoyah, Creekview received some attention in the Class AAA poll, earning two votes. The Grizzlies (1-0) will be at Flowery Branch on Friday.
In addition to Lowndes, the other top-ranked teams this week included Tucker (AAAA), Carver-Columbus (AAA), Buford (AA) and Wesleyan (A).
