The weather's cooling and the calendar says October, which in Cherokee County means a month of fall festival fun.

This weekend brings the first four of dozens of fall festivals that will fill October.

The Holly Springs Founders' Day Committee will present Autumn Fest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Barrett Memorial Park on Park Lane. The free event includes children's games, community organization booths, arts and crafts vendors, a petting zoo, live music and concessions. For information, call (770) 345-5536.

Hopewell Baptist Church will present "The Bethlehem Bazaar" Community Craft Fair/Car Show & Carnival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. All proceeds benefit the church's Back to Bethlehem, a free living Nativity village program. The church is at 75 Ridge Road, Canton. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter fall festival is from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday with free music, games and food. Pet adoptions will be offered for the discounted price of $50 (normally $75). The shelter is at 1015 Univeter Road, Canton. For information, call (770) 345-7270.

Taste of Canton is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Cannon Park on the square in downtown Canton. There will be samples from Canton restaurants, live music and children's activities. The Soleil of Laurel Canyon Art Sale and Show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the neighborhood clubhouse at 547 Laurel Canyon Parkway, Canton. Items for sale will include textile and needle work, wood carvings, original artwork, quilts, handcrafted jewelry, burled pens, fabric book covers, children's woodworking, decorative home and holiday gifts. Canton Elementary School's Second Annual Fall Festival is from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. There will be craft vendors, games, food, inflatable bouncers and a 24-foot climbing wall. A $15 all-you-can-use bracelet can be purchased for games, and activities can be purchased separately for .50 cents each. The school is at 712 Marietta Highway, Canton. Carmel Elementary School's Fall Festival is from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, rain or shine. There will be inflatables, rock climbing, pony rides, games, vendors and concessions. There will be games, a cake walk, booths by Pampered Chef, Premier Jewelry, Tupperware, Custom Hair bows, It's Just Jewelry, Taste of Gourmet, Artworks by Nikki, Handmade Purses, Liberty Mutual - Kids Safety Kits; and concessions by Loose Lip Larry's BBQ as well as sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos and popcorn. Hickory Road Baptist Church in Holly Springs will present Family Fest @ The Hickory from 2 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11. The free event includes a children's area with inflatables, games and crafts; games for adults; live music; a dessert contest; and free food. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's Fourth Annual Fall Fair is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. There will be free games and activities for children such as a rock climbing wall, moon bounce, cake walk, face painting. Translucent, a local Christian band, will perform, as well as a clown and a variety of acts by church musicians. Food from The Butcher's Block and Bar-BCutie will be for sale, as will homemade baked goodies. Admission is free; fees charged for some activities. The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency's Hay Day is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the recreation center, 7545 Main St., Woodstock. There will be carnival-style games, a moonwalk and slide, pony and hayrides, cakewalk, prizes, dunking booth, mini-haunted house and concessions. Children are encouraged to wear non-scary costumes. The Cherokee Transitions Green group will present a Choosing Green Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, in downtown Canton.
