The squad, in conjunction with the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office, spent three months investigating a Mexican drug trafficking organization.
In the past month, agents conducted six searches in Cherokee, Fulton and DeKalb Counties, according to a report released on Tuesday.
As a result of these searches, eight people were arrested. Approximately five pounds of methamphetamine and 1.5 pounds of cocaine were seized. The drugs have a combined street value of $136,000.00. Agents also located seven handguns and seized $40,000 in U.S. currency.
The individuals arrested were: Maria Isabel Guzman-Gariby of Canton, Arturo Majia of Atlanta, Fernando Penalosa-Sanchez of Canton, Arazeli Pineda of Atlanta, Nadeyda Romero-Reynosa of Atlanta, Eduardo Rosales-Tinoco of Atlanta, Gabriela Salinas Gomez of Atlanta and Herman Santana of Dunwoody.
Ms. Guzman-Gariby and Penalosa-Sanchez were charged with trafficking methamphetamine and conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine.
Majia, Ms. Pineda, Ms. Romero-Reynosa, Ms. Salinas Gomez, Santana and Rosales-Tinoco were charged with conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine.
All of the defendants were charged and transported to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
