The annual Love Lights A Tree ceremony presented by the American Cancer Society's Cherokee County chapter and the City of Canton is at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Cannon Park on the square in downtown Canton.
Activities at the free event include the tree lighting, entertainment, a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus and hot chocolate and cookies. Guests can bring a camera to take free photos with Santa.
Donations of $15 or more for an ornament to be placed in memory of or in honor of a loved one affected by cancer may be mailed to: American Cancer Society Cherokee County "Love Lights a Tree," P.O. Box 1149, Canton, GA 30169-1149. Raffle tickets will be sold for a Brenda Harris Tustian "Santa" print for $5 each or six for $25.

The 10th Annual Waleska Tree Lighting Celebration begins the holiday season there on Thursday, Dec. 3.
The free event is at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Northside Pharmacy at 6824 Reinhardt College Parkway. There will be holiday music, refreshments and a visit by Santa Claus. Guests can bring a camera to take free photos with Santa.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in Ball Ground on Friday, Dec. 4, for the Ball Ground Tree Lighting at the gazebo on Gilmer Ferry Road in the heart of downtown.
Entertainment by the "Spirit of Christmas Kazoo Band" will begin at 6 p.m. just prior to the Clauses' arrival on the big red fire truck at 6:30 p.m. A special guest this year will be The Grinch and Martha Mae Whovier from Whoville. Everyone is invited to bring their camera for free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The Ball Ground Optimist Club will be providing hot chocolate and an area for marshmallow roasting. Admission is free.

The Canton Optimist Club will present the 22th Annual Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. on?Saturday, Dec. 5, in downtown Canton.
The parade line up is from noon to 1 p.m. behind the Auto Zone on Waleska Street. The route will head up Main Street and loop around to North Street as marchers make their way back to the Auto Zone parking lot.
All types of groups are needed and welcomed, according to organizers, including marching bands, floats, marching units, beauty queens, public officials, antique cars, fire trucks, rescue vehicles, law enforcement agencies, civic organizations, horses and funny cars. They will join Santa Claus in the festive parade.

Downtown Canton will be the scene of special holiday events on Saturdays beginning on Dec. 5.
Christmas carolers, dressed in Dickens attire, will serenade shoppers in the historic district from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Stores also will stay open late for "candlelight shopping" from 5 to 10 p.m. on Dec. 5 and 12 and from 5 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 19.
Santa Claus will be at the gazebo at Cannon Park on the square at noon on Dec. 5 to visit with children and pose for photos.
The Holly Springs Founder's Day Committee will present Holly Springs' Fifth Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The parade begins at 3:30 p.m. and runs from Holly Springs Parkway at Harbor Creek Parkway and Hiram Way to the Holly Springs Community Center on Hickory Road downtown. Santa Claus will arrive in Holly Springs as part of the parade.
After the parade, at the community center in the historic depot, there will be a free tree lighting ceremony, the opportunity to take photos with Santa and children's crafts.
Local Cub Scouts will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers and It's a Grind and the Holly Springs Business & Professional Association will sell hot chocolate and coffee to raise money for college scholarships for local students.
The city also will be collecting canned food and toys to benefit MUST?Cherokee.

The City of Woodstock Christmas Jubilee this year begins at a later time with a new twist:?a "Parade of Lights."
The festivities on Saturday, Dec. 5, begin with the parade at 5:30 p.m. that runs from the shopping center at Highways 5 and 92 along Main Street to Woodstock Elementary School on Rope Mill Road.
A?grandstand will be set up in front of the Right Wing Tavern in the historic depot on Main Street at 4:30 p.m. for a holiday concert by the Sequoyah High School Women's Chorus.
Before the parade, the Towne Lake Arts Center will present a free performance at 3 p.m. at Woodstock Community Church of the "Little Drummer Boy." Free tickets are available at:?Christine's Creations, Pennybag Emporium, Pure Taqueria, Roomscapes Gallery, Seven Arrows, Tea Leaves & Thyme, Val's Happy Shack, Visitors' Center at Dean's Store, William G. Long Senior Center, Woodstock City Hall Annex, Woodstock Community Center and Woodstock Dance & Music Academy. Canned goods will be collected at the event for local food pantries. The church is at 8534 Main St. downtown.
Following the parade, Santa Claus will be at Woodstock City Park at the intersection of Arnold Mill Road and Main Street downtown to visit with local children and pose for free photos, so bring a camera.
The Woodstock Middle School Choral Group will sing carols, and Mayor Donnie Henriques will announce parade float winners. Preservation Woodstock will present the Citizen of the Year award to Elaine Hubbard, and the park will be illuminated for the holidays.
There will be a free marshmallow roast in the park, and the Woodstock Jaycees will accept new unwrapped toys and financial donations for its Christmas Toy Drive to help local children in need.
