Cherokee County's Congressman, U.S. Rep. Tom Price (R-Roswell), is asking the community to remember soldiers this holiday season.

He is leading a drive to collect Christmas and Hanukkah holiday cards and gifts for U.S military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Atlanta Veterans Affairs hospital.

"Traveling to Afghanistan last week, I witnessed first-hand the incredible tasks performed by our troops every day to protect our freedoms," Price said. "These men and women spend months at a time in foreign lands, away from family and friends. So during this holiday season, you can make this time a little bit more joyful."

Holiday cards - in unsealed envelopes - and gifts can be dropped off through 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, at Price's district offices in Canton and Marietta.

Price asks that each card be personalized with a handwritten note on the inside and left unsealed.

Suggested gifts for the soldiers include: instant coffee, bug spray, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, lip balm, petroleum jelly, socks, playing cards, dryer sheets, Febreeze, gum, hard candy, earplugs, blister bandages, Icy Hot cream, foot powder, athlete's foot spray, eye drops, throat lozenges, Rolaids, Tums, beef jerky, Power Bars, granola bars, batteries, duct tape, pre-stamped envelopes, paper and any magazines, books, newspapers or DVDs. Gifts should not be wrapped.

The offices are at 100 North St., Suite 150 in the Historic Courthouse in downtown Canton and at 3730 Roswell Road, Suite 50 in Marietta.

For information, call the Canton office at (678) 493-6176.
