Rev. James Gayton, 80, Canton, passed away on Saturday at the Northside-Cherokee Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Clyde Boling, Rev. Rex Cox, Rev. Jimmy Gayton and Rev. Justin Page officiating. Interment will follow in McHelen Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. today, all day Monday and until the funeral hour Tuesday at the funeral home. Rev. Gayton was a member of N.E. Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was an ordained Baptist Preacher and a retired Building Inspector for Cherokee County. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Mae Gayton; survivors include his wife, Charlotte Page Gayton of Canton; children, Brenda Barnes of Canton, Wayne Gayton of Canton and Myra Bell of Talking Rock; stepchildren, Rickey Page of Canton, Trina White of Marietta, Steve Page of Canton and Gina Cook of Canton; sisters, Ala Mae Hudson of Cartersville, Betty Eichhorn of Columbus, Pat Burchett of Dallas and Martha Shirley of Ball Ground; brothers, Leon Gayton of Tenn., Johnny Gayton of Ball Ground and Bobby Gayton of Jackson; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
