The authority board on Thursday talked about several ways it could help with the recovery from the Dec. 26 fire that totaled three businesses and damaged three more.
Authority member Stan Rogers was appointed to serve as a liaison between the authority and the fire victims.
The DDA may be able to help victims by identifying grants and loans for which they could apply, members said.
The fire at the corner of East Main and Church streets across from the square was reported early on the morning of Dec. 26.
The 101 East Main St. building that housed Art 101 Gallery and Boutique on the first floor and the paralegal office of Wes Frye on the top floor was destroyed. The historic building is the former home of the Canton Drug store.
The adjacent Taylor's Jewelry at 111 E. Main St. also was destroyed, as was James Cannon's accounting office at 150 South Church Street. The fire began in the accounting office building because of electrical problems in a circuit breaker panel, according to the fire investigator.
Buildings damaged in the fire were the Canton Shoe Shop at 140 E. Main St., in the basement of the Art 101 building; Jones and Cloud Insurance at 121 E. Main St., which also houses David Lloyd Homes on the top floor; and the Mason Law Firm at 160 S. Church St.
The authority on Thursday also talked about its new Web site, which is under construction, the possibility of conducting a fundraiser fashion show in April and revising its rental agreement, but took no action.
