A lane will be closed on Interstate 575 today through part of Cherokee County.

The Georgia Department of Transportation from 9 a.m. to noon will close the left lane of northbound I-575 between exit 8 at Towne Lake Parkway and exit 11 at Sixes Road.

The closing is to allow the department's maintenance crews to repair the guardrail.

The work and the lane closure are weather permitting and subject to change.

"Georgia DOT wants to constrict traffic flow in this area as little as possible, but delays at times are almost unavoidable," said Kent Sager, district engineer at the DOT office in Cartersville.

"We have made every effort to minimize the impact this maintenance operation may have on the heavy traffic on I-575," he said, adding the work was scheduled between rush hours.
