Investigators are trying to determine the motive behind the killing of a Woodstock man earlier this week.

Chris Sanchez, 19, of Woodstock was stabbed during a fight at a Galts Ferry Road residence early Saturday morning.

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has arrested two people in connection with the slaying. Robert Matteson, 19, of Acworth and Amber Singleton, 18, of Acworth.

Matteson has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. He is in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center without a bond.

Ms. Singleton has been charged with battery, aggravated assault, giving a false name to law enforcement and giving false statements. She was originally identified by the name Sapphire Foster. Her bond is $100,280.

Lt. Jay Baker, public information officer for the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, said the fight occurred during a party at Matteson's Galts Ferry residence. According to the sheriff's report on the incident, Sanchez was taken to Kennestone Hospital by people who were at the party.

Matteson and Ms. Singleton left the scene, but were spotted later Saturday morning following a traffic stop by deputies in a neighborhood near Kellogg Creek Road in southwest Cherokee County. Baker said Matteson had called his residence and said he wanted to turn himself in.

"Detectives are still looking in to the motive for the fight," Baker said about how the incident escalated, adding that the incident remains under investigation.

A visitation for Sanchez's family was conducted Tuesday at the Darby-Huey Funeral Home in Canton. Cherokee County Coroner Earl Darby said Sanchez's body was going to be returned to Colorado after the viewing.
