Agenda in place for Cherokee BOC

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will consider awarding a contract to Lusk Design for the design of a law enforcement training facility during its meeting Tuesday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at the county administration building at 1130 Bluffs Parkway in Canton.

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is looking to open a new training facility near its headquarters on Chattin Drive. It will include an indoor firing facility, a rifle and shotgun range and a four-story rappelling tower.

The board will discuss the following items during its meeting:

* Announce that Must Ministries is starting their campaign to furnish summer lunches to the kids who receive free lunches during school;

* Announce that the Greater Opportunities for Access to Learning scholarship program now allows you to redirect a portion of your state income tax to scholarship programs for certain private schools;

* Have a public hearing to consider modifications to the adult entertainment ordinance;

* Request to have a public hearing on June 1 for revisions to the Cherokee County Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance;

* Chairman Buzz Ahrens will give a summary on a LINK trip to Phoenix;

* Ahrens will give an update on the Cherokee Water and Sewerage Authority's capital program;

* Discuss posting parking restrictions in specific locations within the Grantham Park subdivision based on locations that impair proper site distance, locations that are too close to intersections and locations requested by the Fire Marshal's Office;

* Approve a $27,914 contract with Keith Pritchett Roofing for replacement and improvements to roofs for fire Stations 5 and 15;

* Approve a resolution for allocation of recovery zone facility bonds to Vince Merolla Enterprises, Inc. and declare a recovery zone;

* Approve a $25,000 budget transfer for green space projects at the Garland Mountain Horse and Hike Trails park;

* Approve two easements at Cline Park in Waleska for power lines;

* Approve the purchase of utility vehicle for the county parks and recreation department for $6,661 from Greenville Turf & Tractor;

* Approve the purchase of an infield rake for dragging ball fields for $10,736 from Greenville Turf and Tractor;

* Approve the purchase of an auger attachment for a Vermeer Trail Machine for $3,070 from Vermeer Marietta; and

* Approve the purchase of a Ford F350 with dump body for $27,145 from Wade Ford.

At a work session to take place at 3:30 p.m., the board will discuss the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, hear an update on the tax digest and discuss financial reports and agenda items.
