Three races in the July primary election have turned into non-races. It started with Ken Ball dropping out from race for the Cherokee County School Board Post 1 when it was discovered he lived just outside the district boundary.
State Rep. Sean Jerguson’s (R-Holly Springs) path to re-election was made a little easier last month when his July primary opponent, John Forrester, withdrew.
And now County Commissioner Derek Good has withdrawn his re-election bid for Post 4 over questions about his military involvement. His challenger, Jason Nelms, faces no other opposition in his path the board.
Has the number of candidates withdrawing had any affect on how you are following local politics? Has losing three races made this season boring? Or do you feel there is still some excitement left in the remaining races?
The Cherokee County school board still has two other races to be determined this month. Michael Geist is challenging board member Gary Puckett, and Rob Usher is taking on board member Debi Radcliff int he Republican primary. How important is this month’s election (and the November election, as the winner of the two races will face Democratic opposition) for the school board?
