Dylan Lawrence, the founder and CEO of the Dylan’s Candy Bar emporiums and the daughter of Ralph and Ricky Lauren, writes in a new book that Halloween is most definitely not just for kids. It’s the perfect excuse for grown-ups to lose their inhibitions, and it’s a great way to tap into all those childhood memories about candy.

NEW YORK - Picture Willy Wonka's mistress and you've got candy maven Dylan Lauren, especially the Dylan Lauren propelled into happyland for Halloween.

The founder and chief executive of the Dylan's Candy Bar emporiums and the offspring of Ralph and Ricky Lauren writes in a new book that Halloween's definitely not just for kids. It's the perfect excuse for grown-ups to lose their inhibitions, and it's a great way to tap into all those childhood memories about candy. Lauren emotes in her "Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life": "Candy is magic! Candy is imagination! Candy is art! Candy is always in fashion! Candy is joy!"

So what's in the candy queen's candy bowl come All Hallows Eve?

***

AP: What's your favorite candy bowl mix to give out on Halloween?

DL: I think the classic kiddie mix of mini candy bars - 3 Musketeers, KitKats, bags of M&M's - and boxes of nostalgic classics: Dots, JuJubees, Jujyfruits. And of course candy corn are best! Then gummy, sour and chocolate fans all can find something they like.

AP: Growing up, what candy did you most look forward to getting?

DL: I never liked dried fruit, nuts or apples. BOOO! I love gummies so boxes of Jujyfruits, where there are a variety of flavored gummies, or finding an untraditional candy I've never had.

AP: Some people are trying to make Halloween a healthier holiday, for kids in particular, but you unabashedly celebrate its candy goodness. Have you ever experienced the wrath of the anti-sugar movement?

DL: Halloween is the best excuse to eat the candy you want and kids of all ages up to 90 can participate and splurge. Healthy fun options like chocolate covered fruit (raisins, nuts, pomegranate) or 100 calorie snack packs or dark chocolate are fine.

AP: Is Halloween your favorite holiday?

DL: Actually Easter is because I prefer spring bright colors and collect rabbits. But I do look forward to putting on a costume and eating even more candy than I already do.

AP: Has fear taken the fun out of trick-or-treating?

DL: Maybe seeing scary costumes and crazy drunk people provoke fear, but hopefully the candy is all sealed and secure as people who give candy to trick o' treaters enjoy the pleasure of giving, and vice versa.
