Vera Finney Westbrook, 101 years old, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 in Canton, Georgia. She was born Oct. 29, 1912 in Haddock, Georgia to James Henry Finney and Viera Speights Finney. She married the love of her life, Perry Westbrook on July 31, 1934. They were married 48 years before his death in 1978. She is survived by her daughters, Viera Burney (Jack) and Perry Ann Cox and also 4 grandchildren, Mary Ann Allen, Jay Burney, David Cox and Philip Cox and 11 great-grandchildren. She received a two year degree from Georgia State College for Women. She was founder and director of the Kindergarten/preschool at Decatur First United Methodist Church where she served for over 20 years. She was an avid bridge player, accomplished china painter, talented musician and marvelous seamstress. She was a committed Christian with a deep faith. Her first priority was her home and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2:00-4:00 pm at Darby Funeral Home in Canton. The funeral service will be Thursday January 16, at Canton First United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Macon at 3:30 pm. Flowers or donations to Canton First United Methodist Church would be gratefully accepted.
